Join Alabama poets and musicians in celebrating the history and art of African American poetry and song! This first workshop in a three-part series is led by award-winning poet Ashley M. Jones. Jones is founding director of the Magic City Poetry Festival, and a faculty member in the Creative Writing Department at the Alabama School of Fine Arts.
Area middle and high schoolers are invited to attend two workshops to learn about the history and craft of African American poetry and its connection to music, while creating their own poems. A presentation of their work, alongside that of Alabama poets and the music of the Alabama Blues Project, will follow.
Registration closes Sunday, February 7.
